Jim, thank you for the the book recommendation. I just read the New York Times review of it; it sounds like a must read.

Jim, I share your concern for the environment. And I am very worried about what lies ahead, in the very near future. The book High Noon by Jean-francois Rischard, former vice-president of the World Bank details what will happen (now unfolding) and what we can still do. Your image is thought provoking and nicely presented.

Jim Buchanan replied:

Thanks Elizabeth, I'll get that book loaded into my reader. I'm finishing up on "This Changes Everything" by Naomi Klein. I wish I could create an image that would spark man into saving ourselves.

An intriguing capture, Jim. I find myself drawn in to soak up the details - the grass, the background structure, the sky. And the sepia treatment is perfect. Any idea regarding the history of the cannon? Where is it located?

Jim Buchanan replied:

Thanks Vic. The canon and landscape are at the junction of the Santa Fe Trail and the Cimarron trail which was an army outpost called Fort Union. It's north of Santa Fe about 70 miles.

Agreed my friend. If I had that genie in a bottle and only one wish... I would without hesitation wish that people would no longer hurt each other in any way. Once we stop hurting each other, we will heal this world right alongside of ourselves. Sadly, it seems to be against our very nature. We seem so disposed to personal gains that such healing will be all but impossible. I hope someday, our race, our species, will wake up and realize it IS possible if we change within ourselves. Great image man.

Jim Buchanan replied:

Very glad you saw this one John. I have no problem with personal gains, only in the definition of "gains", "profit" and "quality of life". Things have become twisted and we now suffer from our "gains and profits" even to the point that we foul our offspring's future. The time is now. This is the 911 call, our 12.0 earthquake is happening and it is happening right now.

Artist's Description

Our oceans and skies have become our number one priority and must be given all of our energies now. The time for armed conflict and the "glories of war" need to be shelved and allowed to erode into the forgotten past. Man's dance with this devil has to end, the song is over.

Today is time to deal with the task at hand, that task is to end our war on our very environment and the only home we will ever inhabit. Our job for now is the antithesis of war and hostilities. We must make peace with Mother Earth.

About Jim Buchanan

Jim Buchanan

Often neither standard photography nor brushed canvas painting Jim Buchanan's images are a fusion of digital, computer chip, camera lens captures uploaded into modern computerized GPU photo processing and digital processing with tablet. Even the final, hang-on-the-wall picture is accomplished on computerized printers which paint gic'lee on boxed frame canvas, onto the back of an acrylic sheet, onto an aluminum sheet or even made to appear as simply a picture which has been matted and framed. Anyone can have the image of their choice put on a throw pillow for their couch, a tote bag to carry groceries home, a shower curtain, a duvet cover on their bed and more. Easy to tell this is something new when you notice that you can get your...
